I had been given the impression by the police officer that I could go to the Magistrates Court and get all the help I needed to lodge my application. Not his fault, he probably believes that is how it is.

So I walked back to head office of Legal Aid and was told by the front reception person that there would be no one to see me for a few hours - this was at around 1 pm. She suggested I use their free phone to ring a number and ask for information. I told her I could have done that from my office and that I had to get back to work.

So here I am back at work, no PPO lodged and still feeling that I have no support. I will get it done, probably later this week. I will fill in the form and lodge it myself. It is all fairly stressful but at least I am not in a life threatening DV situation, just being subjected to embarrassing and nuisance stalking by someone. How many women are at risk due to this shambles? Does the ACT Government have attractive window dressing for basic services on their websites but actually no real services?

A very poor user experience. I entered the Magistrates courts to obtain help and advice in securing a Personal Protection Order as suggested by an officer at City Police Station. After going through security I saw little in the way of signs with information on where to go for what. So I took a ticket and waited around 20 mins for one person to call the number. She told me I needed to go to Legal Aid "upstairs." If I had known that is where I had to go I would not have waited 20 mins for my ticket to be called. Why not have a sign saying Legal Aid upstairs on Level 2? Probably because it is not actually there. I took arouind 15 mins scouring Levels 1 and 2 and finally found a locked door in an obscure corner of Level 2 with a handwritten sign saying "this office is not staffed. For Legal Aid go to our head office in 2 Allsop St."
