  I had a very unpleasant experience dealing with ‘Derek’ at the Canberra Airport Avis. His attitude was the antithesis of helpful, and requires some serious re-training in the delivery of customer service.

  After our reservation with another car hire company next door didn't eventuate due to their long lines, longer delays and poor staffing, we checked with AVIS had they had a car available for us straight away. And this was on the Friday morning before the October long weekend and without a booking! The staff member at AVIS was helpful, pleasant and very efficient and we had our hire car within minutes. It was a pleasure to deal with AVIS and receive excellent customer service. Thank you AVIS!

  Derek in the Canberra airport office was fantastic in getting me into the car and away quickly. I returned about 2 hours later, as arranged with Derek, with a friend to add him as a driver. By then Derek had left and were were attended to efficiently by another lovely friendly man. He asked an older woman (who appeared to be a supervisor) for a bit of help. Unfortunately she spoke to him in such a rude manner for almost 10 mins that my friends and I later agreed was an awful display of bullying. Very unprofessional. I'll use Avis again but hope I won't have to deal with her or cause any of the other staff to have to ask her a question.

  I'd made a reservation attached to a flight booking, which was arriving late into Canberra. The booking was deleted in error two days before the flight. The airline (QANTAS) made contact with Avis to apprise them of the situation, but to be on the safe side I called the Avis office at the airport the day before flying. No reservation had been made, and there were no cars immediately available. The staff member who took my call (Sandra) immediately understood what had happened and put me on hold for about 5 - 6 minutes. When she got back to me, she'd made a booking for the same standard of car that I'd originally requested, and gave me the booking number. I don't know what magic she worked, but my relief was enormous, as it saved me an anxious time late at night at the airport. Thanks both to Qantas and Avis.
